No. 1 2016 point guard De’Aaron Fox commits to Kentucky Wildcats

Fox is ranked by Rivals as the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2016 class. 247 Sports has him as their No. 2 prospect while ESPN has him as their No. 7 prospect.

“It felt like a family there”, he said live on TV. “When I went on my visit, every fan knew who I was”, said Fox.

Fox, a 6-3, 185-pound guard out of Cypress Lakes (TX), chose the Cats over Kansas, Louisville and LSU, of whom were his finalists. Fox could go down as one of the best point guards Calipari has ever had.

“That was a huge part”, Fox said. After coaching Derrick Rose, John Wall, Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, and Andrew Harrison, top-ranked point guards have no reason not to want to play for Calipari at United Kingdom, and we’ve seen that play out once again. Fox joins Wenyen Gabriel, Sacha Killeya-Jones and Tai Wynyard in the class next season.

“He’ll be a good fit there because of his speed and quickness”, ESPN recruiting analyst Reggie Rankin said. “(He has) great quickness and anticipation”.

Coach John Calipari hopes the back-to-back contests give his latest group of high school All-Americans a chance to bond.

And it’s another point guard unlike any he’s had before.

The #1 point guard in the 2016 class has made the decision that he will be a Kentucky Wildcat next season. He can keep his man in front of him defensively and can handle and distribute the ball well offensively. “That’s what he reminds me of – a guy who can really put pressure on the defense”, Biancardi said.

How long the Wildcats take getting to the top of college basketball after losing seven players from a 38-1 Final Four team depends on what their talented newcomers learn from a weekend crash course of games to open the season.
