Kansas football tries to slow down high-octane TCU

Doctson had been considered “somewhere probable” to play Saturday against Kansas.

Josh Doctson will not be out for the season and may play Saturday.

After confusion earlier in the day about the fate of the remainder of TCU wide receiver Josh Doctson’s season, head coach Gary Patterson confirmed Thursday that Doctson is healthy and ready to play against Kansas on Saturday. Willis is the Jayhawks’ third different starting quarterback this season and is expected to play despite a groin issue.

The Horned Frogs had many chances to put away the Jayhawks last season and after almost blowing its lead, TCU still made the most of its opportunities to win the game.

TCU (8-1) also still has games left against No. 4 Baylor and No. 12 Oklahoma.

TCU: Aaron Green is on pace to be TCU’s first 1,000-yard rusher in five seasons.

The Jayhawks, of course, lost a cadre of standout defensive players during the offseason, including linebacker Ben Heeney and cornerbacks JaCorey Shepherd and Dexter McDonald.

“This team had such high hopes for a national championship, and, with the way the landscape’s going, they’ve got a chance to get back in this thing”, Beaty said. The key contributors for the Jayhawks aren’t going to be steady enough in slowing down Doctson and rest of the Horned Frogs offense.

The 13th-ranked Horned Frogs (8-1, 5-1 Big 12) could still get a share of a second consecutive conference title and get in position for another appearance in one of the six games January 1 set by the College Football Playoff.

“The one thing I will say about our group: they’ve done an unbelievable job fighting through everything that they’ve fought through, to be where we are right now”, Patterson said.

TCU HC Gary Patterson said “we’ll find out what kind of football team we are [by how TCU responds to its first loss of the season]”. A few of the most dominant teams have had the most trouble with the worst teams. After the bowl game, TCU will be a totally different team next year.

But much that happens this year affects the Frogs for next year. Kansas is not likely to be within striking distance late in this game. Offense coordinators Doug Meacham and Sonny Cumbie will be looking to keep the momentum on their side.
