The Apple Watch first went on sale in April of this year and according to research estimates from Canalys, Apple has sold 7 million units of the watch.

Apple Insider reports that Apple Inc. The news comes all the way from Chine where Quanta Chairman Barry Lam accidentally revealed Apple’s future plans. Unfortunately, there was nothing mentioned in regards to the Apple Watch 2 specs.
Previous reports have also claimed a second edition of the watch may roll out next year.
There is not much detail in the report about the next Apple Watch or what changes can be expected. Subsequent rumors circling in the Chinese media clarify Lam’s comments by suggesting that a small batch of Apple Watch 2 devices will ship near the end of next year’s second quarter, while volume shipment will begin in Q3.
Quanta are one of the suppliers for the Apple Watch; the company’s bulk of orders come from the iPhone maker. If the same thing happens with the Apple Watch, consumers could find themselves looking to upgrade more regularly and perhaps opting for the lesser-priced Sport model, instead. Improvements to the smartwatch would help it sell even better and continue to help the Apple Watch dominate the smartwatch market. The software update brought the ability to run certain apps directly on the watch without need for a smartphone, along with new watch faces and a “time travel” mode to scroll forward and backward through your appointments and events.

While the watch update will likely please Apple fans, it may also anger many who have spent a significant amount of $17,000 for the existing version.
