Trump said he has “great respect for the PGA of America and everything they stand for”. A caravan of golf carts followed, including one driven by me, mindful of golf etiquette that keeps carts off tees and greens for risk of damaging them.

In recent days, ESPN and Nascar have cancelled events at Trump-owned properties. He was laser-focused on showing off his investment, and his pride in it, to Bevacqua and potential sponsors from Whirlpool. Andres issued a statement Wednesday citing Trump’s statements “disparaging immigrants” in his decision to cancel plans for an eatery at the Trump global Hotel. It will move to an as-yet-unnamed location.

And don’t mention Donald Trump as a reference.

NBC, Univision and Macy’s are among several businesses that already have cut ties to Trump over his comments. Trump blasted the decision as political and vowed to sue the network. The event had been held the past seven years in Bermuda. “I own 17 clubs”. And many of them come from Mexico.

The day after Trump’s June 16 remarks – he said Mexican immigrants were criminals and “rapists” – L.A. Weekly began inquiries about the billionaire’s local course. “And it raises the possibility of them bringing over infectious diseases that could spread across communities, schools, etc”.

Same goes for Doral taxi driver, Jean Severe who says he makes good money during tournament time.

The PGA and other organizations in “the golf world” distanced themselves from Trump’s remarks. Also, on Monday, ESPN said it would remove next week’s ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic from Trump National to another Los Angeles golf club.

“I am proud to say that I know many hard working Mexicans – many of them are working for and with me… and, just like our country, my organization is better for it”, the presidential hopeful explained, as reported by CBC. The comment was seen by many observers as presumptive, judgmental and inflammatory.

According to stonemason Ivan Arellano, who is from Mexico and now is legally in America through marriage, Trump’s comments have dominated discussion around the construction site. “He said he would be better able to create jobs as president than fellow Republican Jeb Bush or Democrat Hillary Clinton”.

When Hannity insisted that “in a sense, [Trump] is factually right”, Perry shot back by declaring that “I understand exactly what’s going on”, and that debate should focus on the reality on the ground in border states and not “rhetoric that is hyperbolic”.
