“That’s not what we want”.

“He showed last night, despite losing his run-up a couple of times, he got the ball up and swung it and took wickets”. Root and Eoin Morgan made most of the platform they had in the final overs of the match.

“It was disappointing that we let our bowlers down but it’s one of the first times we’ve done it in a while, which is good in a way because we can gauge with positive thinking”.

“We have a lot to learn, a lot to pick up, to get us back on terms”.

Taylor remained the second top scorer for England with 60 runs.

In a statement issued before the match, Younus said: “I am proud to announce that, after playing for Pakistan for 15 years, I am announcing my retirement”.

England batted first in Wednesday’s match and never fully recovered after slumping to 14 for three, an all-out total of 216 being easily reached by Pakistan.

Alex Hales hit his maiden ODI century while Jason Roy and Joe Root scored fifties as England posted 283-5 in the second ODI.

Only Morgan and Taylor provided any kind of flashback to the England that inspired a nation when they faced New Zealand before the Ashes.

Speculations were rife that Younis would announce his retirement from ODIs during or after the England series because of the increased debate on whether he deserved a spot in the ODI side.

Morgan edged Malik to wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed to start the slide and three balls later Jos Buttler (one) failed to regain his ground while taking a sharp single.

Younis has had a see-saw one-day career, having scored only two hundreds in the last seven years, a record that has lead head coach Waqar Younis and support staff to reportedly resisted selecting him.

Woakes (33 not out) and David Willey (13) added an invaluable 33 for the ninth wicket to get England past the 200-mark before Irfan returned to take his third wicket in the penultimate over.

Anwar and Malik grabbed two wickets apiece. If England lose the second ODI they will not be able to win the series after going 2-0 down as it is 4-match series.
