According to WRCB TV, the plane was originally scheduled to take off at 5.56am local time but was delayed until 7.30am due to refueling issues.
American Airlines Flight 2762 landed safely at Huntsville worldwide Airport after the crew noticed fuel was leaking from the plane’s tank.
Passengers on the flight alerted the crew of the leak, which one passenger captured in a photo shared on Twitter.
According to Hensley, the captain emerged from the cockpit to take a look, then made a decision to divert the plane.
Henson said passengers could smell the gas as they got off the plane, and that airline staff explained what went wrong.
“The flight crew did an wonderful job”, he told a reporter requesting an interview. “There was no panic”.
