Lean On, a catchy crossover EDM track that hit the top of the ARIA charts earlier this year, displaced Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud in the prestigious “most-streamed” spot.
English superstar Adele’s new song “Hello” has broken records for its initial performance but is still far below all-time performers with just under 126 million streams on Spotify on Thursday.
For one, it’s not a Michael Jackson classic or, you know, Beyoncé.
That honor now belongs to “Lean On” by Major Lazar and DJ Snake, the electronic dance anthem that’s managed to rack up a staggering 526 million plays around the world on Spotify since its release 8 months ago, reports Billboard. Or Bing Crosby’s White Christmas, the most popular single of all time?
In fact it’s a song that’s not even reached the top of the United Kingdom or U.S. charts and, in a triumph for indie labels everywhere, wasn’t even released by a major label.
Band member Diplo previously said: ‘We wrote this song with MØ very early from an instrumental Jr Blender created in a few sessions in Trinidad.
