Officers Names Released In Spartanburg Methodist College Shooting
The man who died in Monday night’s shooting at Spartanburg Methodist College is from Fairfield County, according to law enforcement officials in the Upstate. News, the student was attempting to steal a auto and tried to run over a campus officer.

The dead student “just made a awful choice that cost his life”, said Wright. The names of the officer and the woman were not immediately released. Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said the shooting had “zero to do with color”.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting.
Authorities say Tomlinson found 20-year-old Delvin Tyrell Simmons breaking into cars Monday night and killed him after Simmons hit him with his auto. Oliver Mylik Chandler, a student who was also attending Limestone, is another alleged suspect and was arrested by the police, according to a statement released by the college administration.
Officer Andrew Tomlinson has been placed on paid administrative leave, along with fellow campus officer Justin Yarbrough.
In Surfside Beach on Tuesday, Horry County Police Lt. Raul Denis said an officer stopped a woman’s auto after a shoplifting report from a Surfside Beach store. He said, “This has everything to do with an officer’s life being put in jeopardy and him defending himself lawfully”. Coroner’s office said that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the officer fired on Simmons, killing him.

Spartanburg Methodist police department received body camera equipment a few days ago but they were not yet in use, Wright said. The statement said that Chandler was suspended from Limestone in May for academic reasons and was a former member of the Limestone College football and track teams.
