The plane then slammed into an apartment building before hitting an embankment and coming to a stop. Officials originally believed it was a single-family home that was struck, but it turned out to be a four-unit building, Haymaker said.

Employees at Professional Grinding Inc., a machine shop near the crash site, ran toward the front of the building with their arms covering their heads when they heard the crash.

Porter says it’s scary to think that if she’d been driving faster the plane may have clipped her vehicle.

The plane’s owner, Danny Lewkowicz said there were nine people on board but the number of deaths has yet to be confirmed by the Summit County Coroner’s Office.

About six minutes after the plane crashed, Bartley drove up to his normally quiet, residential neighborhood and found thick smoke and orange flames filled the sky.
