David Sweat spent 22 days on the run after a brazen breakout from Dannemora prison on June 6 with a fellow inmate, Richard Matt.
Two days later, David Sweat was spotted running on a rural road, just miles from the Canadian border, and was shot by NY State Police Sergeant Jay Cook. Both were shot in Franklin County, where he is the top law enforcement officer, and he concluded both officers acted lawfully under New York’s penal law.
