Amazon.com is giving Britain’s embattled supermarkets another challenge by introducing a grocery service for members of its Prime service. It is now on special offer at £59 a year or you can sign up for a free 30 day trial.
This year the firm added a small range of chilled and frozen items to its Prime Now service which offers one-hour delivery to customers in eligible postcodes in London and Birmingham.
“Amazon Pantry has been created to take the heavy lifting out of replenishing the often bulky basics and store cupboard essentials that people need every day”, Helene Parthenay, Pantry manager at Amazon.co.uk, said. If Next Day Delivery is £7.99, you’ve only got to place 8 orders to make the most of your delivery benefit without taking in to account the other perks.
The service matches brand items or in a few cases beats them.
For example, an Andrex Puppies 9-roll pack of toilet tissue costs £3.50.
For example, a jar of Nescafe Original (200g) is £4.98 on Amazon and Tesco, but £5 at Sainsbury’s and £5.18 at Asda.
A 4 x 415g pack of Heinz Baked Beans costs £2 with Amazon, matched but not beaten by any of the supermarkets.
However, experts predict these items will soon be on offer.
