Pakistan has left talented but inconsistent batsman Umar Akmal out of the squad for the three-match Twenty20 series against England on disciplinary grounds, the chief selector said Thursday (November 12).The 25-year-old Umar was allegedly involved in an incident involving “mistreatment” of women while playing a first-class game in Hyderabad last week, and was issued a show cause notice requiring him to appear before selectors.
The PCB had given Ajmal a category B contract earlier this year, having been demoted from the top level following his return to worldwide cricket after reworking on his bowling action.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a decision to clamp down on its centrally contracted players giving statements and also issued a show cause notice to batsman Umar Akmal for participating in objectionable activities in the country.
Ajmal had to remodel his action after being tested last September, and was then able to start bowling again nine months ago.
Shaharyar said: “We feel sorry over his comments”.
“I am disappointed what Saeed said recently and we have taken a minimum action against him by suspending [his contract] and held his monthly retainer”.
The Pakistan Cricket Board, already reeling from senior bataman Younis Khan’s shock retirement from one-day internationals, acted swiftly to censure Akmal and Ajmal.
