The New XBOX One Experience Has Arrived

We’ve gone into detail about what you can expect from the new Xbox One dashboard before, but the big new feature aside from what’s on the home screen is backwards compatibility. If you want to play a previously bought game, all you need to do is download and play it. If you have a physical disk, you just need to plug it in and install it from there.

However, being able to play Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility is only the tip of the iceberg.

“#Grateful.” Yesterday, Microsoft released the Xbox One New Experience update, revamping the entire console and improving nearly every area of its software.

Instead of downplaying its November 12 Xbox One update, or even trying to moderate expectations, Microsoft has been hyping it to the moon. This firmware update prepares the console for connectivity with Windows 10 and includes major overhaul. Xbox’s Richard Irving talked about one of the elements that makes bringing a game to Xbox One Backwards Compatibility hard, and it’s something people might not usually think of. “So for now, we’ve cut that from the New Xbox One Experience”.

For a limited time, you can play with other users playing backward-compatible games.

There were a lot of things that prompted outcry in the aftermath of the Xbox One’s announcement, with one of the biggest sticking points being the lack of backward compatibility. It seems to be on a strong footing going into the all-important holiday season though, widely advertising a healthy selection of blockbuster games for fans to work their way through using their newly-refreshed Windows 10-powered consoles.

Offering “troubleshooting tips for a few of the experiences we couldn’t fully polish for launch of the New Xbox One Experience”, Microsoft has detailed fixes for several issues, including problems with the first boot-up after update, content installation, and accessory and accessibility issues. In addition, expanded Xbox One Guide functionality allows users to double-tap the Xbox One controller’s Guide button to access key features like messages, notifications, and multiplayer party status.

As many have predicted, numerous games included in the initial wave of backward compatible titles come directly from Microsoft’s extensive library.
