State-run TV stations NTV and Channel One aired footage of Russian President Vladimir Putin meeting with military officials in Sochi.

It said the weapon would cause radioactive contamination to make coastal areas unsuitable for military or economic activity “for a long time”.
During a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and his senior military advisors and officials in the seaside village of Sochi on Tuesday, a cameraman briefly filmed over the shoulder of a military officer, catching a description of a new weapons system known simply as “Status-6”. “In future we will undoubtedly take preventive measures so this does not happen again”.
The images were quickly removed by Russia’s state owned broadcasters, apparently after censors intervened, but not before they were broadcast across the country and picked up by sharp-eyed YouTube users.
The document was an overview “of one of the projects that presumably were discussed at the meeting as part of the plan to restore that strategic balance that the U.S. missile defense system so blatantly undermines”, wrote Eugene Miasnikov, a co-author of Russian Strategic Nuclear Forces, in an analysis post.

There’s a great deal of speculation as to whether the images of the torpedo were really accidental, as the BBC notes that Russia’s Rossiiskaya Gazeta reported on several details of the weapon following the so-called “leak”. It’s true that the U.S.is developing the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD), but it’s stated objective is to protect against short- and mid-range missile attacks from places like Iran and North Korea.
A Russian analyst told The Moscow Times the leak was likely intentional. They’ve developed all the modern submarines that the Russian navy has in operation.
In response, the Russian military enterprises created and tested successfully weapon systems capable of defeating the United States missile defense, he said.
Launched by a submarine, it would create “wide areas of radioactive contamination”, the document said.
“The plan is to deliver a 100-megaton nuclear bomb to the US shores”, he said.
Putin, he said, is “not our friend”, and is not even attempting to be.

“Initially, as we have repeatedly said, we will work on the strike systems able to overcome any missile defenses”, Putin said at a meeting on the situation in the Russian military-industrial complex.
