Albertsons gets 12 Haggen grocery stores in bankruptcy auction
The small grocery chain this year took over 146 stores from Albertsons and Safeway (read our previous coverage here).

It has found buyers for ninety one of its stores among hundred and fifty four stores. A few of the stores for which it has found a buyer are already closed.
The one Washington store in the auction that did not go to Albertsons is in Liberty Lake, where the prevailing bidder was Yoke’s Foods.
The Times adds that in an earlier document, Haggen reported that Albertsons’ starting bid for its NE 4th Street location in Renton was $1.7 million, while its opening offer for the 1st Ave South store in Burien was $1.
Haggen also said it accepted bids for “noncore” locations, auctioning 55 stores for more than $47 million.
The purchased stores will be converted into Smart & Final Extras, which feature more bulk organic options and household items, according to the news release.
Haggen will submit the auction results for approval later this month.
Albertsons had reached a deal to buy Safeway for about $9 billion, and to get Federal Trade Commission approval of the buyout, the companies agreed to sell 168 stores nationally.
Completion of the transactions is subject to certain conditions, Haggen said. By September, the Bellingham-Wash.-based chain had filed for bankruptcy protection and announced plans to exit California, including giving up its Orange County locations.
Pleva did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday night.

Phone calls tonight to Southern Nevada’s six other Haggens were answered by respective employees.
