Legislation seeking to reverse Gov. Bruce Rauner’s decision to shut down the IL State Museum system during the budget stalemate has cleared the legislature and is now under consideration by the administration.

Rauner’s office says whether he’ll sign or veto the legislation, which includes no funding source, is under review.
Several good government groups last month offered to host a meeting of Republican Rauner and legislative chiefs to spur bargaining over an unsettled state spending plan that should have taken effect July 1.
But it’s telling that it received Republican support.
“Now I don’t think that will reopen the museum today”.
Though the museum’s closed to visitors, the majority of its staff are still on the state payroll, while their union battles Rauner in court. “And the longer we’re closed the more devastating it will be”.
Suggs says the law would be helpful, because it would provide assurance.
The IL Campaign for Political Reform and a group of reform and civic organizations say with the meeting less than a week away, details like the agenda, location and media access remain unclear.

As was the case before the shutdown, it also requires IL to operate branch sites at Chicago, Dickson Mounds, Lockport and Rend Lake.
