Google Announces About Me Page

If your Google+ profile is listed as public, the information here, and across Google’s apps, will be as well.

About Me allows you to add and remove information as you see fit.

“Changes you make here may show up with content you create & share”, the About me page reads. Similar options were previously available on Google+, and as reported by TechCrunch, still will be, but now changes can be made to your Google+ profile through the new page or vice versa.

You can still connect your profile to websites you contribute to and manage, as well as showing general links you particularly like, but unlike its G+ equivalent, the Sites card doesn’t automatically include links to your Google+ and YouTube profiles. It certainly lets people customize what people can know and not know about them…

Kerravala said this should make it easier for people to take control over what information is out there about them on various Google services. Called About Me, the page presents the myriad of work, education, residence, and other personal information that you can share with others, with privacy controls for each in one single page.

At the bottom of the page, there’s a link to change your Google profile privacy settings so you can further limit what people can learn about you on your assorted Google pages. And it has so many connected sites and services that it can be hard to keep track of where that information could show up online. You can also tell Google not to use your Google+ photos as background images on Google products and services or show your name and photo in shared endorsements that may appear in ads.

Google has begun rolling out a new About Me tool this week that gives you more control over what personal information is publicly displayed by various Google services. For example, in the YouTube section it’s possible to choose whether subscriptions and liked videos are public or private, or whether video updates are posted to the user’s feed.
