Nothing better than a family film: Salman Khan

The actor will make a comeback after 12 years. And it looks like he was so keen to make up for lost time, he chose to put two Salman Khans in his latest Bollywood extravaganza.

Apart from the slow pace of the film, the narration tends to get tired, at times but you don’t really mind, thanks to Khan’s presence and the visual extravagance of the film. (Khan is among the highest paid actors globally, and is on every list that considers the most influential and admired people in India.) Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is visually spectacular, fast-paced, and packed with all the surefire emotional triggers built to satisfy giant audiences. On a related note, there’s a pretty amusing Game Of Thrones reference in the film; see if you can identify it.

I am on top of the world, and very excited. Salman Khan has teamed up with Sooraj Barjatya after 16 years for this film. There is a lot of buzz around the film. The rest of the supporting cast play their respective roles well. I am returning to films after a long break. Any resemblance to The Prisoner of Zenda, Don, even Anari No. 1 or Mr. Barjatya’s previous works is surely purely coincidental. It didn’t feel like I was working with a superstar. Today, the position that he has reached is purely on the basis of his hard work and dedication.

As for the rest, well, you didn’t bother to watch Titli or Bollywood’s path-breaking high-art movies right? However, talking about the character of Maithili, it seems flawed as she seemed leading two different characters, at one end she is dashing and confident girl, while on the other hand in her role of a fiancée she is all together the opposite. I am waiting for PRDP to release; an announcement for my home production will follow. He knows me better than I do. For Barjatya, in black and white, black is a tiresome grey at best – this gives us cringe-worthy villains (Kohli) and action sequences that belong in badly made 80s films. Tell us about your role. The first half of the film drags and it is only post-interval that it gets interesting. He wants everything for himself, and doesn’t want to share anything. And Oh yes, I loved romancing! Ask Sooraj why it took him nine years to get back to directing a movie, and he says that he was waiting for a script that would showcase Salman as a change agent. Soorajji is beyond brilliant. With Aamir, I want to be directed by him. I am proud to be a part of films like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Ram Lakhan and now…

Sonam Kapoor as his betrothed Princess Maithili is a total misfit
