Donald Trump Weighs In On Starbucks Red Cup Controversy

If Starbucks is the Grinch this year, what does this make Dunkin’ Donuts?

Dunkin’ Donuts is bravely serving their coffee in Christmassy-themed cups following Starbucks’ red cup backlash. One Twitter user wrote, “Dunkin” Donuts new slogan: “Dunkin’ Donuts: Jesus Doesn’t Hate Our Coffee Cups.’ #StarbucksRedCup”.

In a press release announcing the cups, Starbucks said it embraces customers from “all backgrounds and religions” and that “during the holidays the company aims to bring customers an experience that inspires the spirit of the season”.

“Do you realise that Starbucks wanted to take Christ and Christmas off of their brand new cups?”. I just got into my auto and drove off to go about my day after they handed me my coffee.

There are a few who believe that Feuerstein has a point and the matter was even egged on when presidential candidate Donald Trump weighed in on the matter on November 9 during his campaign rally.

Trump, who is trying to attract evangelical support, threatened to retaliate by ending the lease of a Godless Starbucks in one of his buildings because he was so offended. “I think it would be nice if somebody put “Merry Christmas” on something, you know, like the old days, right?”

So the lesson here? Are these new cups a threat to Christmas?

We reached out to Starbucks about the controversy and will update if we hear back.

Since 1997, we have served our holiday beverages in a unique red cup, each year and each design telling a different story.

“In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs”, Starbucks vice president of Design and Content, Jeffrey Fields said, in a statement.

As CBS2 Political Reporter Marcia Kramer reported, the mayor seemed to regard Trump’s comments on the so-called red cup controversy as more of a tempest in a teapot – or a coffee pot – than anything else.
