New York Giants star Pierre-Paul has finger amputated

New York Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul reportedly got injured after a fireworks accident and got his right index finger amputated.

Schefter reported the news on Twitter and included a picture of what appeared to be an authentic medical chart that included Pierre-Paul’s name and a description of the procedures needed, including “amputation finger, right index finger ray resection and skin graft to extremities [right arm – lower]”.

According to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport, the amputation could be to speed up the player’s recovery time.

Team officials flew down to Florida to check on him and try to determine how extensive his hand injuries were, but never made it out of the waiting room to see him, sources told Schefter. The Giants have given a franchise tender worth $14.8 million for the 2015 season to Pierre-Paul.

What’s rough about Reese’s situation is this: cutting ties with JPP now – and pulling the Franchise Tag which hasn’t officially been signed with – would then destroy one of the Giants top assets.

Negotiations between the Giants and Pierre-Paul for a long-term contract have not broken off, but given the July 15 deadline to reach such a deal, it seems unlikely.

There were photos in social media showing that Pierre-Paul rented a van and filled it with pyrotechnics on Saturday, which drew anxious reactions from those around him.

Curiously, the rest of Pierre-Paul’s team only reportedly heard of their teammate’s condition after it was reported by Schefter.

While Schefter went on to tweet a message stating that a “medical source”, possibly the one responsible for violating Pierre-Paul’s HIPAA rights, expects Pierre-Paul to play this season “sooner than people think”, Pierre-Paul could also be facing legal ramifications as police investigate the incident.

Pierre-Paul had 12.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in 2014. He’s earned more than $16 million in his first five seasons. The Giants can rescind that offer, which would make the sixth-year pro a free agent.

New York Giants defensive and Jason Pierre-Paul in Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback CJ Wilson are undergoing treatment for significant injuries to their hands.

There are minimal reports out regarding the extent of his injury, but the Lincoln Times-News reported Wilson lost two fingers in the incident.
