Yale Professor Explains Free Speech Intelligently to Students, None Listen
But in the wake of several ridiculously offensive campus parties nationwide, including one in which white UCLA students who wore blackface and another with a “thug” theme thrown by white fraternities at Southern Methodist University, it seems considerate and smart for Yale to try to discourage such offenses. At an Ivy League school like Yale, video footage of what appears to be a mass lack of understanding of the First Amendment gives me cause for concern.

Buildings on the campus of Yale University are shown April 15, 2008 in New Haven, Connecticut.
The students demand inclusiveness in relation to race, ethnicity, and gender identity from the university administrators since a faculty member allegedly denied the request of the Intercultural Affairs Committee for students to avoid wearing racially offensive costumes for Halloween.
In September, the Yale Daily News reported three black professors in African-American Studies announced they were leaving. Copy may not be in its final form.
“We do not do it for the university at large”. Monday’s crowd of a thousand chanted slogans including, “We are unstoppable, another Yale is possible”.
Next Yale, describing itself as an alliance of students of colors and their allies, goes on to identify examples of alleged racist incidents on campus, concluding, “This harm is quantifiable”. That’s all I want.
“We would like to see an improved climate on campus”.
“Then why the (expletive) did you accept the position?” she shouted. So, my question is: Are you going to say that or not?
“No”, he said, “I don’t agree with that”. Christakis said his encounter on Thursday with students in the college’s courtyard, in which numerous black women upbraided him for being inattentive to them, broke his heart, according to a voice recording of the conversation provided to The Washington Post.
LEX BARLOWE: Yeah, absolutely.
Do you believe the Yale protesters have a legitimate complaint? Respect other people’s traditions. Pretty simple and pretty polite, to be honest. [It] was sent out by the associate master of Silliman College and only to her students. You don’t feel wanted. The university is trying to control you.
Now that an open dialogue has been brought to campus, time will tell if behavior towards cultural appropriation will change. “You are a poor steward of this community!” a student shouted. And so, it really did create a completely unsafe atmosphere on campus. A few students took issue with what they perceived to be an unnecessary and intrusive instruction. He had actually not attended the forum the night before. There was not even an email.
Students like Luther considered the email inappropriate, and have asked for an apology. Where is our email?
She wrote that, while she appreciated the “laudable” motives of the administrators, she called upon the community “to reflect more transparently” on whether it is a good idea for administrators to tell students how to dress up for Halloween. He tried to explain that other people have rights too, but Shrieking Girl bellowed, “Be quiet!” I’m genuinely sorry, and to have disappointed you. I laud those goals, in theory, as most of us do.
Sheryce Holloway is exhausted of white people at Virginia Commonwealth University asking if they can touch her hair or if she knows the latest dance move. She emphasized that spitting is “disgraceful” and not the message the protestors were looking to convey, but she confirmed that it did happen.
The march was held hours after the president of the University of Missouri president stepped down amid a controversy over race relations at that school.

Among other things, the student protesters around the USA are calling for greater diversity on the faculty, more spending on scholarships for minorities, more instruction on tolerance and sensitivity, and more resources such as cultural centers.
