DFA: No Filipino casualty reported yet

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) condemned the attacks, calling it “cowardly assaults on innocent and defenseless people”.

French president Francois Hollande adresses the nation on November 13, 2015 after a series of gun attacks occurred across Paris as well as explosions outside the national stadium where France was hosting Germany.

“So far there are no reports of Filipinos affected in the incident in Paris”, DFA spokesperson Charles Jose said. France will always fight against extremism and stand for the values of democracy and human rights enshrined in our national motto “LIBERTE, EGALITE, FRATERNITE” which was coined in Paris centuries ago.

Speaking to ANC, Philippine Ambassador to France Ma. “Reports are saying that they are closing their borders and they are trying to stabilize the situation”, Valte said.

At least six attacks were reported on Friday (Paris time), one in the Bataclan music venue where hostages were taken and another at a Paris restaurant in the 10th arrondissement.

The President meanwhile assured the Filipino people that security measures are being elevated, as it urged the Filipinos to be more vigilant.

In a radio interview, Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte said the Philippine Embassy in Paris is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to extend assistance to Filipinos who may need it. The PNP is on alert and our security forces are assessing the situation, including the continuing evaluation of our security procedures.
