Narendra Modi arrives in Srinagar with Special Package: No Internet and Lots

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also added “Reconstruction of homes, shops will not be enough for Kashmir, we have to go forward from that”.

“All roads leading to the Chanderkote function area and the Sher-e-Kashmir stadium have been closed for traffic and pedestrian movement”, said a senior police officer.

Mr. Modi also said that he wanted to make Kashmir a dream destination for tourists.

“I want to build a new Kashmir, a powerful Kashmir”, he said, lauding an 11 billion euro ($12 billion) economic package which he said would change the fate of the state.

He said, “The love I get from you inspires me to work for more”. “But the people of the state know ways to come out of this destruction and pain and they really came out of it”. Saying that there is abundant indigenous talent in the valley, Modi gave examples of players like Parvez Rasool and assured that the state will soon host worldwide cricket matches too.

“For last 30 years not a single worldwide match has been played in this stadium…”

Modi stressed on the need to produce quality saffron, pashmina and bats.

“We’ll continue to fight against India’s brutal military occupation”, he said.

The residents of Indian-administered Kashmir have staged a strike in reaction to the killing of a man by security forces in the disputed Himalayan region.

Hours before Modi’s rally, in footage screened on national television, police detained an independent parliamentarian, Engineer Rashid, for protesting with black flags. “Vajpayee’s peace initiative ensured a decade-long thaw in India-Pakistan relations. Bade bhai ko chote bhai se milna hi hoga”, Mufti said. This money should be used for converting the state into a new Jammu and Kashmir which is modern, prosperous and progressive state.

The officials said all service providers were directed to disconnect the mobile Internet services from 10am till the Indian prime minister left the valley.

In the first leg of the tour, he will travel to Britain where he will hold talks with Prime Minister David Cameron and visit the house in London where Dalit icon B R Ambedkar had lived.

“Not only Delhi’s treasures, but Delhi’s heart is for the people of Kashmir”, he added speaking in Hindi. “There was nothing like that in Modi’s speech”.
