All of the African sides must get through a two-legged tie before reaching the group stage, and numerous major sides failed to gain an edge in their away legs on Friday.

It is advantage the Islanders ahead of the return leg clash on Tuesday in Kumasi.

The Black Stars were reduced to creating scoring chances in the second qualifying round first leg tie at the Stade de Mitsamiouli.

Kenya recorded a narrow home win over Cape Verde Islands, with Michael Olunga’s ninth-minute strike making the difference.

Comoros, meanwhile, are relying on the usual suspects to do the business against Ghana, with Amerdine Abdou not calling up any new faces, although a number of players return to the squad after missing out on the win over Lesotho.

The hosts took the lead though Gerson after just three minutes, but South Africa equalised with Tokelo Rantie’s goal eight minutes later, before Thamsanqa Gabuza provided a lead on 21 minutes.

Finally, Tunisia came from behind to beat Mauritania 2-1 on their own turf. Oumar N’Diaye gifted Mauritania the lead halfway through the first half, yet Wahbi Khazri and Yasin Chikhaoui turned things around after the interval.
