The NY City Police Department (NYPD) has beefed up security around NY City and, in particular, at the French consulate as the deadly attacks in Paris have left at least 158 dead with as many as 100 others taken hostage.
Extra NYPD officers have been dispatched to crowded areas around the city, as well as to French government locations “to provide police presence and public reassurance as we follow the developing situation overseas”, according to an NYPD statement.
Police in Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia said although there were no known threat to their cities, they were taking precautions including adding extra patrols.
