Students will hold events to highlight racial issues at a handful of USA college campuses this week, spurred by the impact of protests at the University of Missouri that culminated in the resignation of the school’s president and chancellor. Students have continued to voice their concerns about racial injustice through social media, an outpouring of criticism that eventually led to the resignation of the University’s president, Tim Wolfe.

The former law professor, whose appointment was announced Thursday, spent 18 years as deputy chancellor on the same Columbia campus from which he graduated in 1971 and later received a law degree. The Columbia campus’ chancellor, R. Bowen Loftin, also announced Monday he would be leaving his position at year’s end for a new role at the school.

MU Policy Now, a student group made up of graduate and professional students, had been pushing for Middleton’s appointment.

Middleton also previously served as vice provost for minority affairs and faculty development as well as helping found the Legion of Black Collegians while studying at Mizzou as a student.

“I have nothing but good things to say about Mike”, Trachtenberg told The Associated Press.

Middleton takes over at a turbulent time for the university. Black student groups had been calling for change over the administration’s handling of racial issues and were given a boost last weekend when 30 black football players vowed not to take part in team activities until Wolfe was gone.

“Character-wise, experience-wise, compassionate-wise, leadership-wise, he’s the right person”, said Alden, now a faculty member who specializes in educational leadership.

Unfortunately, as of Thursday morning, the threats and vandalism continued.

A 19-year-old white Missouri man is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday on the charge of making threats on social media to shoot black people at the University of Missouri’s main Columbia campus.

Another threat said: “Some of you are alright”. Feces were on the floor as well, the officer wrote. He said he asked if the threats amounted to “saber rattling”, and Park responded, “pretty much”.

When questioned specifically what he meant by the phrase, “Some of you are alright”. Police stated the 19-year-old threatened to “shoot every Black person” he saw at his school in Maryville on the same app. Meanwhile, Park’s alleged threats warned students not to come to campus on Wednesday. When pressed whether it was mimicking the OR shooting’s posting, Park replied, “Mmhmm”.

“How can we focus on studying if we know we are not valued in our everyday lives?” said Kamil Oshundara, a second-year world arts and culture student and board member of the Afrikan Student Union. And an AP reporter got no answer when he knocked on the door of the family’s home in the affluent St. Louis suburb of Lake St. Louis. Online court records did not list an attorney for him. Initial reports suggested the post was made from a location outside the Missouri S&T Police Department, located at 1201 N. State St.in Rolla.
