Capaldi, 57 – who is now enjoying his second outing as the Doctor – said he was asked by producers to get Hanks onboard, but unfortunately he was too busy. Depends how good the gags are.
What you will get – as well as the chance to witness the festive episode blown up to big screen size – is a few exclusive content. Attendees will be treated to an exclusive video interview with Alex Kingston, and a 15-minute behind-the-scenes featurette starring Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat. The Doctor Who Christmas Special will feature the first meeting of Doctor Who and his wife, who is played by Kingston.
“Alex is fantastic”, the Scottish star enthused. The first time he met her, she died.
“But I will [be involved] at a few point. But she’s a delight”.
This episode has been penned by executive producer Steven Moffat. It’s a very dark episode physically and thematically. “So I’m just expressing my opinion about it”.
He continued: “At first, she doesn’t know who it is so that’s fun”.
However, Peter has one particularly reclusive star in mind as his dream guest: “I think it would be good to have a few rock stars… like David Bowie”.
Speculation had put Ingrid Oliver’s UNIT Scientist Osgood in the frame to replace Coleman; it’s a thought that she herself hasn’t considered and, after the events of The Zygon Inversion, it looks as though she’s happy enough on Earth.
“It’s going to be huge, huge shoes to fill”.
Her replacement companion has not been announced. Or could it be that the stunt co-ordinators just need to rethink a few of The Doctor’s trademark moves? “She’s wonderful, really awesome energy to have around and very supportive”, she said.
Doctor Who writer Mark wrote ninth episode Sleep No More, which will be broadcast on BBC One on November 14.
“My avowed intention with this episode was to essentially write it as a horror movie and rein it in, but we didn’t”, he admitted.

As for the much-hyped appearance of the Sandmen as the villains, we will say that they were particular scary … but the problem is that we actually think that there have been scarier things this season. And there’s something about the immediacy of handheld footage which just feels real, more creepy.
