One of her friends told authorities Gonzalez was shot, and was carried away in a stretcher, Terri Carbaugh, spokeswoman for the university, said.
She was from El Monte, CA, and a student at California State University in Long Beach, CA where she studied industrial design.
Conoley added that the university would try to help French exchange students in the U.S. find information about whether loved ones were affected by attacks at a popular theatre, a string of cafes and the area outside the Stade de France stadium. We will extend all support necessary to comfort them. The university will hold a vigil at 4 p.m. Sunday. They were saddened to learn Gonzalez was a victim of the Paris attacks.
Gonzalez’s death has hit her home campus hard.
American college student 23-year-old Nohemi Gonzalez was killed in a string of terrorist attacks in Paris.
The University of San Diego also posted an update to their worldwide studies overseas web page stating that the school has reached out to all students in Europe as well as their emergency contacts. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends”. “We’ll keep you posted as we are able to be more forthcoming publicly”.
Gonzalez was one of more than 120 lives that were lost when organized terrorist attacks took over Paris Friday night.
“It’s unreal to think one of our students was involved in this tragedy”, Stephanie Ochoa, a senior in the Department of Interior Design, said.
Schools around Southern California are checking in with students studying overseas in Paris to ensure their safety. A spokesman for the State Department said the United States embassy is working around the clock to ensure Americans in Paris are safe and accounted for. While CNN reported a death toll as high as 150 in the immediate aftermath of the dramatic hostage rescue at the Bataclan theater in central Paris early Saturday, local time, the NY Times reported along with French publications that the figure was far lower.
