Both Sikhs and Muslims were among around 500 protesters who barracked departing Modi supporters along the fabled Wembley Way.

“The pace and direction of progress in India is such that the fruits of development will be seen very soon”, Modi said.

He said: “They see in Prime Minister Modi, especially after his tremendous election result a year ago, a man that is filled with hope and aspiration, and somebody who is decisive”. Now we have more Members of Indian origin at the Parliament than before.

The Prime Minister called the NRIs as the true ambassadors of India. “They said a “chaiwala” will never govern world’s biggest democracy, but here he is”.

Hundreds of protestors held placards and chanted slogans as thousands of people poured into Wembley Stadium to welcome controversial Indian prime minister Narendra Modi this afternoon.

Britain is home to a 1.5 million-strong Indian diaspora, one of the largest in the world.

Stating that the FDI inflow has increased by 40 per cent, the Prime Minister said this shows the increasing worldwide confidence on India. He renewed his pitch for India getting a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

However, instead of saying ‘Acche Din Aanewale hai’ (Good days are about to come), Cameron made a slight variation. It was obviously in keeping with Modi’s “Make in India” initiative.

He said: “It’s an opportunity for two countries, tied by history, people and values, to work together to overcome the biggest challenges of our age”.

The agreements between India and United Kingdom strengthen the UK’s position in sectors including insurance services, finance, healthcare and energy.

“In a country that has suffered a lot because of corruption and misadministration, Modi is regarded as someone who is a clean politician and is somebody who delivers”.

He is having lunch at Buckingham Palace before later taking part in a rally at Wembley Stadium, where he is expected to be joined on stage by David Cameron. Upon his arrival at the Palace in a Jaguar – the iconic British auto brand owned by India’s Tata Motors, Modi presented his royal hostess with photographs taken 54 years ago during her visit to India in 1961.
