For veterans, meeting others at the ceremony who have served sparks a bond.

Phil Madaio, president of the board of directors for the MA Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Green Hill Park, said it is important to honor those men and women who served and came home from war just as it is important to honor the fallen soldiers.

“It’s just one day that people get excited and then the rest of the year they forget about us”.

“I encourage all vets to participate in a few kind of a celebration to remember their day”, he said.

Active members like United States Army specialist Ricardo Jimenez marched to show his support for those who served this country before him.

“It’s the turn of the Vietnam veterans to have a chance to be appreciated for the work that they’ve done”, said Martin Agee, who helps coordinate the parade for the council.

On Wednesday, Barren County held Veteran’s Day programs at many of their schools in honor of our military. “It doesn’t really mean anything for me and isn’t anything special”, said Ronald Jackson, 66, a Vietnam Marine Corp veteran.

They say coming to the wall and seeing the long list of names brings back memories about how they were treated when they returned from war.

“I served 12 years in the army as a combat engineer, one tour in Iraq for a year”, said Spinner. “Now everyone wants to welcome veterans and I’m happy for them”. “That’s the biggest thing we honor-veterans themselves”.

The local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America is also raising funds for a memorial at the Tuskegee VA campus and a women’s monument at the Montgomery campus.

“I love to see all this stuff, it makes my hair stand-up and I don’t have that much hair”, Fisk said.

On November 11, we also gave thanks to the veterans that fought in the deserts and mountains of Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq.
