Russian TV broadcasts ‘secret’ nuclear weapons plan

The project, called Ocean Multipurpose System “Status-6”, is a proposed long-range, high-speed unmanned underwater vehicle developed by Rubin, a St. Petersburg-based submarine design bureau. The objective of the new system, according to the Russian document, is the annihilation of the enemy’s economic facilities in coastal region and “unacceptable damage” to the country.

According to this document, the weapons could create “zones of extensive radioactive contamination making them unsuitable for military or economic activity for a long period”.

“It’s true a few secret data got into the shot, “noted LiveJournal enthusiast Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, tells the Guardian”.

But a few observers suspect it was no accident.

How likely is a USA vs. Russian Federation nuclear war? “Their real goal is to neutralize the strategic nuclear potential of other nuclear states… above all, of course, Russia”, Putin said.

“It’s an attempt to offer an asymmetric answer to the USA missile defence”. Moscow’s nearly immediate public reprimand of the Russian Television for broadcasting “secret information” has raised suspicions of a targeted leak.

The fact the video was quickly pulled by the broadcasters suggests it was a mistake, Podvig says. “Still, they would have probably preferred to keep a few details out of it”, he writes. No one knows (or no one’s saying, at least) if this new nuclear weapon is active, under development or just theoretical, but it’s a sure bet that the Pentagon is interested in finding out.

The document appears to state that the Oscar-class submarine will be capable of carrying four drones and the other will be equipped with either three or six.

On the diagram the giant torpedo’s range is given as “up to 10,000km” (6,200 miles) and depth of trajectory is “up to 1,000m” (3,300ft).

There’s a great deal of speculation as to whether the images of the torpedo were really accidental, as the BBC notes that Russia’s Rossiiskaya Gazeta reported on several details of the weapon following the so-called “leak”.

Korotchenko continued: “The United States is actively developing an anti-missile defense system and putting very serious money into this, hoping…to create an impenetrable shield over the United States”.

Putin, he said, is “not our friend”, and is not even attempting to be.

On Tuesday, Putin said that Russian Federation would counter NATO’s U.S.-led missile defense with new strike weapons capable of piercing the shield.

A report by the U.S. Congressional Research Service in 2014 said Russian Federation “seems to have increased its reliance on nuclear weapons in its national security concept”.
