Rangers notes: Henrik Lundqvist adds to records

Apparently, Lundqvist. The NY Daily News late Tuesday confirmed what the end of the video showed, that ushers decided that if the fans couldn’t play nice with the stick, then nobody could have it, and they took the stick back to the Rangers locker room.

“He told me he was good to go, so we’re going to play him”, Vigneault said. We’re very aware of that.

Overall, the Canes outshot the Rangers 33-23 but this was a classic case when it did not matter.

With Tuesday night’s 3-0 win over the Hurricanes at the Garden, the Blueshirts extended their record to 159-1-9 when leading going into the third period.

Fast and Nash scored 11 seconds apart in the first to give the Rangers the lead even though Carolina controlled play for much of the period (see full recap).

Is this type of success sustainable given the Rangers’ inability to deliver a consistent 60-minute performance? “Hank’s one of the best goalies in the world, and it just kind of flows that way”. That save percentage is also the best of any goaltender in team history through 12 games since the league began tracking the statistic in 1975-76. The deep shot by McDonagh was deflected into the back of the Hurricanes net.

What makes the Rangers appreciate their backbone goalie(s), perhaps, is the opponents’ goalies the last two games, Mike Smith in Arizona and Cam Ward Tuesday, who gave up a few shaky goals when Lundqvist and Antti Raanta (Saturday) didn’t.

For Eric Staal, it’s not about the difference in skill and talent. “They’ve found ways to score goals at opportune times and they did tonight again”.

Vancouver’s Jannik Hansen and Daniel Sedin led an offensive outburst with one goal and three assists each, guiding the Canucks to a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.

Sharks forward Joel Ward scored his eighth goal of the season in the second period and defenseman Brent Burns scored at 14:49.

Thankfully, the kid got the last laugh (I’d like to think he laughed like the Penguin in “Batman”). “I’m lucky I’m at a point in my career where I’m interested in winning games and being on a winning team but you always try to help out”.

The Rangers are coming off a season when they won the Presidents’ Trophy for the best record in the regular season, and they’ve been to the conference finals in three of the past four seasons.

While the Hurricanes appear improved and are failing to get results, the inconsistent Rangers are finding ways to win.

I mean, things really escalated quickly.
