Recalling the last time he had visited Britain in 2003, as Chief Minister of Gujarat, he told the audience that India was now moving on a journey to “development and progress”.
Referring to increase in FDI flows, he said, “The world’s confidence in India was rising”.
The visiting Prime Minister said “expense by British corporations in India will be a win win relationship for both places”, the state statement said.
Asserting that Narendra Modi has proved his critics wrong, British Prime Minister David Cameron today said that his Indian counterpart has worked tremendously after forming the government in New Delhi and said “acche din zaroor aayega”.
The Red Arrows marked the arrival into the United Kingdom of Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday ahead of a three-day trip where he will meet the Queen, visit a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Parliament Square and address crowds at Wembley Stadium.
Britain is home to an estimated 1.5 million people of Indian origin, providing political ballast for Modi as well as potential funding for projects back home such as building toilets for millions of Indians who don’t have them and expanding power networks, failures he touched on in his speech.
He said: “They see in Prime Minister Modi, especially after his tremendous election result previous year, a man that is filled with hope and aspiration, and somebody who is decisive”.
He also backed India’s claim for permanent membership in the UN Security Council. “What is good for you is good for us”.
“I would like to assure you that the dreams you have dreamt – and the dreams every Indian has dreamt – India is capable of fulfilling these dreams”. It was obviously in keeping with Modi’s “Make in India” initiative.
The Indian flag had also been recreated by covering seats with plastic sheets behind one goalmouth, where a stage had been set up. In the mean time fireworks started at the Wembley Stadium.
It will further strengthen the “special and strategic partnership” between the two countries.
He said that “India-UK ties are about people and about prosperity”.
Speaking to The Hindu shortly after Mr. Modi addressed the gathering, Ms. Patel said the welcome Mr. Modi received was “phenomenal”.
Mr Modi was welcomed by the Master of the Household, the Queen’s representative, as he entered the Palace.
Modi arrived at Buckingham Palace Friday in a Jaguar – the iconic British auto brand owned by India’s Tata Motors.
Modi is the first Indian head of government to pay an official visit to Britain in nearly a decade.
