A NUMBER of people have been arrested in Belgium as part of an operation linked to the Paris terror attacks, while the death toll has climbed to 129, with more than 350 people injured.
French police have detained six people who were close to one of the terrorists who attacked Paris Friday night.
The USA officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the investigation had just begun, stressed that the attackers likely had a substantial understanding of French history culture and Paris in particular, and that it was “highly possible” that a few had lived in the French capital.
On Saturday, Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, took responsibility for the slaughter, which French president Francois Hollande denounced as an “act of war” that must be countered “mercilessly”.
The statement, by the council, the only body in the country authorised to issue fatwas or Islamic legal opinions, says a concerted effort is needed from a unified moral stance in order to eliminate terrorism.
“RTL said there would be a press confernce later by the prosecutor’s office”.
A spokesperson for the prime minister said Belgium was not closing its frontiers but would increase spot checks on travellers arriving from France.
Police believe that all of the attackers are dead, with seven killed by bombs strapped to their vests and one shot dead by security forces. And AFP reported that the two men were detained after police raided their homes 130 kilometers (80 miles) east of Paris.
Michel also convened a security cabinet meeting on Saturday to review Belgium’s responses to the attacks in France.
He said the French authorities had a security file on one of the Bataclan killers because of his Islamist radicalisation and he had a criminal record, but had never spent time in jail. Police early Saturday freed hostages at a concert hall where more than 100 people may have died. The interior ministry said at least 112 people died at Bataclan.
“When it became clear that an attack was unfolding, the commentators of the game announced a special news flash but didn’t clearly say it was an attack because six million people were watching and we didn’t want to stir a wave of panic”, said a TF1 rep.
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said the places attacked are ones Parisians love, where they celebrate diversity.
“The big question on everyone’s mind is: Were these attackers – if they turn out to be connected to one of the groups in Syria – were they homegrown terrorists or were they returning fighters?” said Brian Michael Jenkins, a terrorism expert and senior adviser to the president of the Washington-based RAND Corporation.
“I came down to the terrace and saw the girls, they were under 30”.
A state of emergency has been declared in the European country shaken by the horrific attacks.

“As a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally, we have worked together to bring about pressure on ISIL even as we also try to bring about a political transition inside of Syria that can relieve the suffering of so many people and eliminate the environment in which ISIL can operate”, Obama said.
