But against Ben Carson, who is now leading the GOP horserace in the NBC/WSJ poll, Clinton finds herself in a tied contest, 47 percent to 47 percent. Asked whether they trusted the various Republican candidates to be commander in chief, Trump and Carson were tied, at 40 percent each.

The poll did show Clinton defeating Trump in a general election matchup, 46 to 43 percent. And Chris Christie leads Clinton, 46-41 percent.

Despite winning hypothetical match-ups against the Democratic front-runner, Rubio, Cruz and Christie trailed Trump and Carson, receiving a respective 14, 13 and 3 percent of the vote among Republican voters, according to poll results. Trump’s favorable rating was 37 percent and his unfavorable rating was 56 percent. Rand Paul each with 4% support. Sixty percent of respondents said they had a unfavorable opinion of Trump, the worst mark among any of the four candidates tested.

Clinton is underwater on this metric as well, at 44 percent to 53 percent.

Of the Republicans polled, 31 percent said the debate changed their opinion about Carson and made it more positive.

The NBC-WSJ poll of 847 registered voters was conducted between October 25 and October 29 and has a 3.4 percentage point margin of error. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones. The overall sample included 502 Republicans, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points, and 480 Democrats, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
