Empire State Building dark; WTC lit after Paris attacks

On Friday night, the spire of One World Trade Center was lit up in blue, white, and red – the colors of the French flag – to honor the victims of a series of attacks in Paris that occurred the same night.

Saturday will be the second consecutive night the 102-story NY landmark will not be lit up. The governor said the act shows NY stands with the people of France.

“We join them in mourning those who were killed, and in praying for those who were injured or lost loved ones”.

Cuomo said the 408-foot spire was set to be illuminated Friday night and would remain so in the days to come.

On behalf of all New Yorkers, I offer my thoughts and prayers to all those who have been affected by the attacks in Paris earlier today.

San Francisco City Hall tweeted a photo of the French flag flying from the building and changed its avatar to a photo of the building lit up in the flag’s colors.

NY City officers have been deployed to various parts of the city, including French government buildings.

The French attacks are among the deadliest in the West since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on NY, Washington and Pennsylvania.

US officials briefed by the Justice Department after the Paris terror attacks tell The Associated Press there is no evidence of any specific or credible threat targeting the American homeland.
