Hicks stepped in front of a pass in the flat for Darren McFadden and sprinted 67 yards untouched.
The Eagles (4-4) are a half-game behind the Giants in the NFC East standings and already beat NY handily last month.
Only Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis (three picks, three recoveries) has done more damage this year. More on that later. But despite a few failed attempts earlier in the game, Cassel hooked up with Williams for a crucial fourth down play late in the game that allowed the Cowboys to keep their drive alive.
Cowboys returner Lucky Whitehead took the ensuing kickoff 3 yards deep in the end zone and raced 79 yards. On the next drive, the Eagles went back to short passes and stagnant check downs. However, after his performance in Arlington on Sunday night, National Football League fans around the country are singing the praises of the Eagles’ quarterback for his fourth quarter performance. The highs were highs, the lows low, the good good and the bad… well, mostly terrible.
While the Eagles got off to another slow start against the Cowboys (shutout in the first quarter), the offense really picked it up in the second half. The Eagles averaged 4.9 yards per carry.
VICTOR CRUZ: The salsa-dancing wide receiver hasn’t played since tearing his patella previous year. Terrence Williams has not been good enough as the No. 2 receiver and Cole Beasley was a non-factor at slot receiver for too many games. Beasley hauled in a 17-yard scoring pass giving the Cowboys a 21-14 lead. He was also sacked four times and the offensive line, as great as they are, couldn’t protect him very well in this game at all, as he was running for his life.
This time they out-did themselves. Their first possession wasn’t even a minute long.
Moments later the opening quarter turned into bizzaro world.
Eagles fans always will remember that game. Then Eagles standout DeSean Jackson, the only healthy receiver who could get open, was jawing with receivers coach Bob Bicknell, whose current crop of receivers not only cannot get open but can’t catch the ball.
From a three-by-one set, with DeMarco Murray offset to the boundary, the Eagles got Murray matched up with Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens.
Bryant, of course, was uncoverable until coordinator Billy Davis wised-up and doubled him.
DEFENSIVE ROOKIE IN FIRST HALF: Safety Byron Jones entered the season overshadowed by second-round pick Randy Gregory.
The difference now is that none of the three left might be able to play a whole game anyway when the Eagles face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The run blocking was outstanding.
Whatever it is the Eagles have been doing wrong they have a golden opportunity to build on their second half and overtime in Texas. We played fast. We put a lot of pressure on the defense. He had a monster year in 2014, catching 88 passes for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns, the third-straight season in which he managed at least 85 catches, 1,200 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
It was a march in which the Eagles overcame adversity starting with Johnson, the left tackle, gutting out an injury, Murray finally separating from his old team on a wheel route and the Birds capitalizing on the home team’s loss of inside linebacker Sean Lee, who suffered yet another head injury.

Oh, and Greg Hardy wasn’t a factor.
