Media coverage of Donald Trump’s controverisal immigration remarks have lifted the GOP presidential candidate to the top of the Republican field, as said by a new Economist/YouGov poll.

Candidate Ben Carson is tied 9 percent with Marco Rubio, Rand Paul sits at 7 percent, Ted Cruz is at 6 percent, Chris Christie has 5 percent, Carly Fiorina 4 percent, 2 percent for Rick Perry, and 1 percent each for Lindsey Graham, Bobby Jindal, and Rick Santorum.

On the Democratic side Hillary Clinton still has a dominant lead, but PPP says things are tightening up a few in the way that they are in other places across the country.
But despite Trump’s strong lead among his fellow Republicans in the primary polling, he still lags behind Clinton with overall voters, coming up with just 44% of them to her 47%. She and Ms. Fiorina were tied at 45 percent apiece.

The poll has a margin of error of 4.3 percent; for individual primary matchups the margin is 5.8 percent.
