Firefox is now available on the iPhone

The Firefox browser has been available on Android for a few years now but Apple and Mozilla had a little dispute that prevented an iOS version for some time.

According to CNET, the normal web page view with Firefox for iOS is not that great, but it allows users to focus on the essentials, such as smooth web browsing.

Firefox is available to Apple users everywhere as of this week.

Techcruch reported that last December the non-profit browser maker would reverse its long-held stance against developing software for the App Store.

The final version is being launched with the absence of their Gecko engine. Thereafter, testers was able to try the earlier version of Firefox for iOS in May.

Firefox though will be up against it to gain popularity with Apple users. iOS already has Google Chrome, and Apple’s own safari browser is heavily entrenched as the default go-to web browser.

If your Apple device is running iOS 8.2 or newer you can install and use Firefox for iOS, today. So what is to expect from Mozilla?

The new app comes with many features that users will be happy to utilize, including Intelligent Search, Visual Tabs and Private Browsing. There are also familiar features, such as search suggestions and private browsing. It’s certainly good news for desktop Firefox users who have patiently waited for years for Firefox to make the crossover. “If it sees similar usage on the iOS ecosystem it won’t have much effect on the overall mobile browser market”. Moreover, you can also use your regular apps.

Most of Mozilla’s reluctance to deliver Firefox for iOS came from the company’s concerns over Apple’s policies.
