Guard stopped bomber entering stadium

A security guard on duty in the players’ tunnel, who asked to be identified by his first name Zouheir, said that the attacker was found to be wearing an explosives vest when he was frisked at the stadium’s entrance around 15 minutes into the match. Backing away from the security guard, the attacker detonated the vest loaded with explosives and bolts, according to Paris prosecutor Franois Molins.

Spectators invade the pitch of the Stade de France stadium after the global friendly soccer France against Germany, Friday, November 13, 2015 in Saint Denis, outside Paris. Three minutes later, a second person blew himself outside the stadium.

One civilian was killed in the attacks, police said.

At least 120 people were killed during Friday’s attacks, the deadliest day in France since World War II.

French President François Hollande, who was in the audience, was ushered to safety after the louds booms, but many in the area suspected it was just firecrackers.

The account sheds light on why the suicide attacks on Stade de France failed to cause the carnage that occurred at the Bataclan concert hall and restaurants across Paris.

A report in the NY Times claims that Germany coach Joachim Low and France boss Didier Deschamps were informed of what was happening in Paris at half-time in the game but decided against informing their players.

“Once I saw Hollande being evacuated, I knew it wasn’t firecrackers.”

Witnesses reported that news began to spread inside the stadium late in the second half. We’re hoping that the stadium is well policed and I’m hoping we’ll be okay but I haven’t thought about that, it was more of a thought about the events in Paris itself’. “You could imagine what had happened”.
