DNR asks hunters to watch for Chronic Wasting Disease

Stewart admits a few hunters might be reluctant to have this done if they bag a trophy buck. “There’s a lot of little ones, little bucks, but nothing insane”.
The state Department of Natural Resources is asking hunters to be on the lookout for deer that have the disease.
“It is the one time of the year we all get together and you have someone like this who wants to stop it”, said Thompson. “The tags were meant to give youths an opportunity to harvest a deer in their early years”.
“It depends on what you’re interested in”, he said.
But the rut should be going strong, and colder weather that is forecast for the upcoming week should help get deer moving more by opening day. The statewide total fall shotgun harvest previous year (2014) was 465 turkeys. The disease was detected previous year at a private, fenced shooting preserve and at a nearby breeding facility. Chances are good that one deer may be followed by more.
The CRP allows hunting on the land but says “hunting must be conducted with state laws”.
Oklahoma’s first official deer hunting season was held in 1933 in only five southeastern Oklahoma counties and Major County in western Oklahoma. Use of the electronic system is required. The one Monday is specifically about the nine-day gun deer season.
The ODNR Division of Wildlife remains committed to properly managing Ohio’s deer populations through a combination of regulatory and programmatic changes.

As of October 28, 564 bears (346 males, 218 females) had been taken by New Hampshire hunters. “The new slugs, the performance is close to 12 gauge, but it doesn’t beat you up as bad”. A muzzleloader hunt runs November 28-Dec. 13. “I would say it’s nearly 50-50 now. The people seem to like it”.
All hunters, archery/crossbow and gun, received a Farmland Zone antlerless deer carcass tag when they purchased their archery and/or gun licenses.
“We’ll be selling a lot of hats, gloves”.
Past year was a low-water mark for deer harvest, as well as license sales since at least 2000. He’s been getting reports from bowhunters.
The policy was seen even two or three years ago as catching on with hunters. “I think it has everything to do with the weather”. The deer tested include those killed by hunters, by state-sanctioned sharpshooters and those killed on area roads by vehicles. “I decided if the fish were going to do well, I would concentrate on getting on the water”.
Almost half a million hunters will be in the woods and fields today for the opening day of Arkansas’ modern gun deer season.
