#12 Oklahoma Takes Down #6 Baylor In Convincing Fashion

“You can talk all the noise in the national media”, Oklahoma’s defensive coordinator said.

Still, Baylor has thrived as a home favorite, covering 19 of its past 24 games in the role.

In what Oklahoma played Saturday, for sure.

In the process, Oklahoma (9-1, 6-1 Big 12) inserted itself into the College Football Playoff conversation. With a balanced offense and a surprisingly dominant defense, Oklahoma outslugged Baylor in the rain.

Take the Sooners in an upset that adds ever more chaos to the Big 12 and to the playoff picture. But did Oklahoma show them something? But No. 6 Baylor will drop, No. 7 Stanford is out with a second loss on the season and No. 9 LSU also lost its second game of the season and is out. “It’s got to be a positive”.

“I’m just anxious about one big game”. The four turnover disparity, however, was too much to overcome for the Horned Frogs. Does the bad call mitigate the Spartans’ loss?

But the rest of Oklahoma’s résumé, at least to this point, stacks up very well.

This is the first of a three-game Big-12 gauntlet to end the season as both teams play No. 8 Oklahoma State and No. 15 TCU in the coming two weeks, with the Cowboys hosting Baylor next week before hosting the Sooners on November 28. The sixth ranked Baylor Bears matched up with the twelfth ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The Cowboys’ offense, which is averaging 44.6 points and 497 total yards per game at 6.7 yards per play, rates 0.5 yards per play better than average and should have modest success moving the ball against the Cyclones’ stop unit.

Freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted twice. Star receiver Corey Coleman managed only three catches for 51 yards.

“There’s a lot of stress”, Mike Stoops said. “I had to live it for 3 1/2 hours”.

It was more than enough to reverse what had become a trend.

With three more wins, and a few help, Baylor could still join Oklahoma as the only teams to win three consecutive Big 12 titles.

Weather: We’ve had intermittent rain throughout the last two hours.

Past year the Big 12 was the Power Five conference left out of final four.

But cranking up the offense is no longer an issue.

Sterling Shepard was stellar as well, tying a school record with 14 receptions for 177 yards and a score. The Sooners will be in Stillwater the following week for their regular-season finale.

“We go into every week planning on winning”, Lazard said. “He revs everybody up”. The Oklahoma State senior converted a fourth-and-1 with a three-yard plunge that keyed the Cowboys’ scoring drive, which he finished with a touchdown dive, to open the third quarter. “You could see it in everybody’s eyes”. Leading by three points in the fourth quarter, Oklahoma had moved from its 22 to Baylor’s 7.

Mayfield, though, handed the momentum back over to Baylor later in the quarter. But when Mayfield scrambled, so did Flowers.

“We played confident”, Mayfield said. “I just found him late”.

Phil Laurie, Big 12 Conference officials’ observer, issued a statement after the game that the ruling on the incompletion was correctly reviewed in the booth. At No. 5 in this week’s playoff rankings, Iowa is the most overrated team in college football.
