LSU vs. Arkansas: What we learned from Razorbacks’ 31-14 over Tigers

It’s hard, I can tell you, to operate offensively with all the multiple personnels. “We get our team back on track and looking forward to hosting Arkansas this coming Saturday”.

Even when the Tigers managed a nine-play, 92-yard drive after Collins’ second score, the deficit remained two touchdowns and nothing came from Heisman Trophy contender Leonard Fournette.

Fournette had 127 yards from scrimmage including 91 on 19 rushing attempts and three catches for 36 yards. Brandon Allen completed 35 of 45 passes for 442 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Razorbacks.

“I like my quarterback”. I like my tailback. Its offensive line is now underperforming. “It has to be something that I am not getting done”. Offensively, I think that is the key piece.

The Razorbacks’ domination took place on both sides of the ball. “I thought (the players) fought”. “Certainly, we would’ve liked to have had our plays more organized and with comfort of call”. We have to be better, and that’s me. Microphones, voice recorders, TV cameras, iPhone – they all pointed at LSU’s senior starting right tackle.

The Tigers didn’t score until the final 24 seconds of the first half on a deflection in the endzone, which Malachi Dupre was able to come up with.

Arkansas running back Alex Collins led the ground game for the Razorbacks, totaling 141 yards on 16 carries with 2 touchdowns.

Sophomore receiver Jared Cornelius, from Shreveport, put the Razorbacks ahead 31-14 with a 69-yard run with 10:18 left in the fourth quarter.

“We have to come out with better practicing, better preparation and everything”, Fournette said. Arkansas was 1-3 following three straight losses to the likes of Toledo, Texas Tech and Texas A&M. The game also airs as a live stream online. Though LSU showed signs of life by sandwiching a pair of touchdown drives around halftime, it couldn’t muster much more, prompting fans to head for the exits early in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Arkansas drove 67 yards in five plays on its second possession to take a 7-0 lead. Or the pre-snap motion and the pulling block of Sebastian Tretola that gave Alex Collins a direct path to the end zone from 80 yards away in the second quarter? His 80-yard touchdown run right up the middle put the Hogs ahead 14-0 early in the second quarter.

Outside that, with two wins in its last two games, Arkansas would be a near lock for a trip to Florida for either the Citrus or Outback bowls in Orlando or Tampa.

The victories at Ole Miss and LSU give Arkansas a 3-1 mark in SEC road games this season – losing only at Alabama – for its first winning road record in conference play since going 3-1 in 2010. The Rebels were open Saturday after losing 53-52 in overtime at home to Arkansas last week on two unfortunate plays at the end.

“We’re bowl-eligible now. Were’ going to play Mississippi State… and see where we go”, said Bielema.

“We were all hurt from it. We’d never seen anything like it”, quarterback Chad Kelly said. “Very hard-working guy. We have a blue-collar mentality because of guys like that”.

“I think we’ll look at that defensive film and except for three plays they played their butts off”, Miles said.

Same as previous year, Bielema has kept his team together, ignoring the losses and the complaining. The Razorbacks want to slug you in the chest for about 51 minutes, with the remainder taken up by manly punts.
