Empire State Building dark, WTC lit after Paris attacks

The NY Police Department said it had bolstered security at high-profile locations around the largest USA city on Friday in response to what officials believe were coordinated attacks in Paris which have killed at least 140 people.

The NY Police Department said that there are no known threats to NY City at the moment, but the increased police presence across the city will remain until they learn more.

Authorities have stepped up security, with additional police deployed all around NY City as well as at airports and at the Hudson bridges and tunnels. “Already, 1,500 additional soldiers have been mobilized”, said the Elysee Palace in a statement.

Rep. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat and ranking member of the House Permanent Committee on Intelligence, also told the AP there was no evidence of any credible threats targeting the U.S.

“I think like all New Yorkers, we feel solidarity, we know how this feels”.

The official was not authorized to discuss the briefing publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Police did not say how many extra officers were sent to guard the areas of concern nor did they specify the areas where the extra officers were sent.

Police have sent units to the NY embassies and consulates of countries experiencing attacks in the past.

The MTA is increasing security at Penn Station. The… “We’ve been awake about this for a long time”. League officials discouraged fans from carrying bags into the venues.

“We are monitoring very, very closely the situation with our federal partners and obviously with the folks we have in Paris”, de Blasio said.

NY City’s Mayor Bill de Blasio says an arch in Manhattan’s Washington Square Park will also be lit on Saturday.
