Giants poised to face undefeated Patriots

When it comes to Super Bowl history, the Patriots and the Giants had played two of the most exciting of all, both won by NY.

New England Patriots’ Tom Brady (12) will look for Julian Edelman (11) throughout the game, as Edelman is one of Brady’s go-to 3rd down targets.

Two of those three NY Giants victories were Super Bowl wins. While the Patriots are probably the most consistent team in the National Football League, the Giants have been on a rollercoaster ride this year. NY has been consistently inconsistent and New England has been the picture of success.

“I’d much rather have won them than lost them, but they won’t have any bearing on this week or what the matchups are”, Brady said of his only Super Bowl losses.

The Patriots were a relatively healthy team for the first month of the season, but in October the team was hit with a series of injuries, particularly along the offensive line.

No longer boasting stalwarts like Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck on the defensive line, the Giants have managed an NFL-worst nine sacks. “A lot of new faces on their team and our team”.

The Giants have allowed the most yards per game, averaging over 422 yards allowed to opposing offenses. “It’s a big game, everybody knows that, and we’re going to play the best we can”. The Giants have the 32nd-ranked defense.

The major caveat: New England has been playing lights-out against everyone, while the Giants have struggled to grasp first place in the NFC East.

If there is one team that seems to have figured out how to deal with Tom Brady and company, it’s Tom Coughlin’s G-Men from the Meadowlands. So you can have your beer on Sunday, I’ll be guzzling my haterade, hopeful that a franchise whose myriad achievements have been brought low by cheating and smarm can get its typical comeuppance from the Giants.

The Patriots are just too good right now. Blount gained 129 yards in the win over the Redskins.

I remember the days leading up to Super Bowl XLII and thinking that the Giants did not have a prayer to win.

TALK IS CHEAP, Ep. 31: Jason Pierre-Paul makes his triumphant returnA few months after blowing off parts of his hand in a fireworks accident, Jason Pierre-Paul was back on the field in the Giants’ win.

Bill Belichick said the position evolved during the late 1980s when teams started using a third-down back to take the pressure off the starter and provide a change of pace – someone who was quick and could catch the ball. “He does get the ball out fast, it’s something you can’t be frustrated with”, Jenkins said. “So it’s just going to be important making good decisions, reading out the coverage, obviously not throwing it to them”.

The Patriots went on a 12-play, 44-yard drive in 1:46 to set up Gostkowski and send the 5-5 Giants to a heartbreaking defeat. The first game of the series was played in Boston – a game the Patriots lost 16-0 – in 1970. “So it’s a great test, a great opportunity, I think”. WR Odell Beckham Jr.is fourth in league with 759 yards receiving, third with 20 third-down catches and sixth with 59 receptions overall….
