Manchester United monitoring Arjen Robben’s situation at Bayern Munich

Manchester United are believed to be interested in offering Dutch winger Arjen Robben an escape route out of Bayern Munich, according to the Mirror.

A story in The Mirror suggests Robben has been hurt by teammate Robert Lewandowski’s preference to play alongside Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman, due to Robben’s selfishness on the ball, and with the 31-year-old not taking kindly to these comments the tabloid say United are now on “red alert”.

Robben has not reacted well to the criticism bestowed on him by Lewandowski and can consider a move away, should a lucrative offer come his way.

Louis van Gaal is well acquainted with Robben, when he was with the Dutch national team and his arrival will alleviate the need for a fast and creative winger, which he stressed on in a recent press conference.

I’d personally be very surprised to see Robben join Manchester United in January, or at any point for that matter.

Van Gaal already has Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard to deploy in wide positions but the coach is after proven quality and Robben has excelled wherever he has been, from Chelsea to Real Madrid, before becoming one of the most feared attackers in the Bundesliga with the Bavarians.

The winger, who has been out of football action for two months with left abductor injury, has proved he is now back to his best by scoring twice in Holland’s 3-2 win over Wales in Cardiff on Friday night.

It is understood that the pair were embroiled in a bust-up over the past couple of weeks, with Lewandwoski finding Robben too selfish to play alongside.
