Iran hard-liners denounce outreach to West at anti-US rally

Iran’s highest authority, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, conditionally approved the deal last month, but the lawmakers said that beginning implementation so soon was against his directives.

The lawmakers also advised the Iranian government as well as the parliament to “act carefully in line with the honourable leader’s wise guidance”, referring to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader.

“The slogan “death to America” is backed by reason and wisdom; and it goes without saying that the slogan does not mean death to the American nation; this slogan means death to the U.S.’s policies, death to arrogance”. But what we heard today is again a reflection of how Iran sees America as an enemy and how the long history of enmity between Iran and the United States and the history of American hostility towards Iran have affected the Iranian mentality and we surely are far from seeing Iran and the United States to work together in the global arena and in the region as two close countries. In his statement, the Iranian President said that “The US embassy takeover formed the pillars of the country’s independence and fighting against the arrogant power by the Islamic Revolution in Iran,”. But there was also a new twist: growing battles between hard-liners and their opponents over how much Iran will change after a landmark nuclear deal with the United States and other powers.

“Death to America!” is a slogan even more ancient than “Amazing Thailand”. The situation devolved into a 444-day hostage crisis and a deterioration in U.S.-Iranian diplomatic relations that persists to this day, according to AFP.

The decision came after Khamenei on Sunday warned against importing American consumer goods as sanctions are lifted under the nuclear deal.

The U.S. State Department said Zaka is not an American citizen.

The milestone might get a brief mention in USA news reports, but most Americans won’t reflect much on what happened that day.

He reiterated his warning that the U.S.is not to be trusted despite the nuclear deal reached with the United States of America, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.

Four other Iranian-Americans are being held in Tehran, including Pastor Saeed Abedini, who was convicted in 2013 on Christian-related activities.

President Hassan Rouhani’s policy of engagement with the West has faced opposition from conservative factions from the very beginning, and the tussle is intensifying ahead of parliamentary elections in February.
