A candle burns on the California State University Long Beach website for Nohemi Gonzalez.

The U.S. State Department says Americans were among the 129 people killed, and 352 people injured in the terrorist attacks. She was in the middle of a semester studying overseas at Strate College of Design in Paris. At least one of those students, as well as another CSU Long Beach student, was at the restaurant at the time of the shooting and they were the ones to notify the school that Gonzalez had been taken away in an ambulance.

“We miss her today and we’ll miss her forever”, Conoley said. “On behalf of everyone here at UMG, we extend our most profound sympathies to his parents and all of his friends and family”.

Nohemi Gonzalez, from El Monte, California, was a junior studying design. The university will hold a vigil at 4 pm on Sunday to mourn Gonzalez’s passing and to grieve for all the victims of the atrocious attack in Paris.

They said she was petite and full of energy. “Learning a 3D modeling computer program in a language I don’t know is up there In the top 3 hardest things I’ve ever had to do”, she wrote.

Two American students are still stranded in Paris from Furman University. “Prayers for her family, friends, and her @CSULB family”, Garcia tweeted.

Michael LaForte, a lecturer and one of Gonzalez’s former professors, called her a “shining star” in CSULB’s industrial design department.

The Mayor of Long Beach tweeted that the entire community is mourning her loss.

The school she was studying at in France posted to Facebook Saturday, saying that their hopes that one of their students hadn’t been a victim in the violence were dashed.
