She put together a raffle on Xavier’s concourse that includes autographed items from WNBA players Elena Delle Donne, Tamika Catchings, Shavonte Zellous and Indiana Pacers guard George Hill and forward Paul George.
Mount St. Joseph opened its women’s basketball season against Hiram College as part of a doubleheader with Xavier playing Evansville in the first-ever “Lauren Hill Tipoff Classic” on Saturday. To honor her memory this weekend, her former teammates (and their rival team) took a moment on Saturday to offer a touching tribute to their friend. Players from both sides then gathered around the ball and hoisted their right hands in the air with their index finger and thumb forming the shape of an “L”.
Although Hill eventually accepted the role of honorary Mount St. Joseph coach just before Christmas, she continued to fight to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer researc.
Hill wore Jersey number 22 for Mount Saint Joseph’s basketball team. “I’m so happy that people know about it now and that we can get a few research going and hopefully find that home run cure for cancer”, Lauren said.
And even though that telethon is over, you can still help by donating online. She fulfilled her collegiate basketball dreams in a November 2, 2014 against Hiram College.
