Nicholls State at Florida State
“There were many times where we defended it probably as well as we can, and they made the play anyway”, Piper said.

The Seminoles improved to 13-1 in season openers under Hamilton.
Besides a few of the young guys really giving everyone a glimpse of what this 2015-2016 team has to offer, the Florida State Seminoles just completely dominated a pretty lousy Nicholls State team.
Sunday’s meeting marked the third meeting in school history with Florida State winning all three. “The challenge is how to mesh that and sustain it for long periods of time”, said Hamilton, who begins his 14th season looking to return the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012.
The Seminoles made 65.6 percent of their shots from the field, including five of 10 three-pointers.
Ja’Dante’ Frye led Nicholls State with 13 points and T.J. Carpenter added 10.
Said Bookert: “That’s the way we feel the most comfortable”.
The Colonels started out the game by hitting 7 of their first 11 shots from the field but were 4 of 16 the remainder of the first half as they were unable to keep pace with the Seminoles. “Honestly, they were just faster than us”.
“In our world we think we shoot the ball well”, Piper said.
Highly touted freshman guard Dwayne Bacon Jr. drilled a 3-pointer on FSU’s first possession and then hit a jump shot just a few seconds later on his way to a 23-point performance in his college debut.
Florida State brings back 87 percent of its scoring and 89 percent of its rebounding from last season. Crash the boards, get the defensive rebounds, kick it out and get in transition. (Bacon) is a big-time scorer, that’s what we want him to do.
“We all know that they are very capable of being very good offensive players”. As coaches we have to evaluate the things that we are trying to get them to accomplish overall.

The night game will also be Florida’s first this season since its trip to LSU in October, with only the Gators’ win over Georgia coming in a non-noon contest in the interim. In all, the Florida State freshmen combined for 62 points- as many as the entire Nicholls State team.
